The All Electric 2009 Roadster

When you think of sports cars, you normally do not think of sports cars with electric engines. However, the 2009 Roadster is going to change the way you look at sports cars forever! This is a 2 door, 2 passenger convertible sports car that comes in only one trim for now. When this car first comes out it will have a 248 horsepower engine and red line at 13,000 rpm. The one speed automatic transmission is, of course, the standard for this car.

The starting price for the 2009 Roadster is going to be at $109,000. However, the amount of money you save on gas is going to be well worth the high price tag. The lithium ion battery that comes with the car is going to have a life use of over 100,000 miles. The actual life of the battery is not yet known. However, the company that makes the car promises that you can get replacement batteries for very cheap, making these all electric cars last a lot longer than the gas cars, mostly because the engine takes much less of a beating. With gas engines it has to deal with the combustion chambers. As you can guess, these electric cars are run a little bit differently.

This car does have a lot of speed to it. In fact, it is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds (3.7 seconds to be more precise). The car gets about 120 mpgge (miles per gallon gasoline equivalent). Although everything runs off the battery, the car gets about 90% efficiency from battery to wheel.
